FEMINIST BASEBALL #14
fanzine $10
Spring/summer 1995, 120 pages, 7" x 8.5". Jeff Smith's Seattle zine features a broad cross-section of outsider rock, jazz, improv, noise, etc. Plus other cultural concerns, like his fab 11-page interview/article on 70s child actress Pamelyn Ferdin (you'll recognize her when you see her pic). There's also an excellent 13-page interview with 60s guitar monster Randy Holden, and accompanying "overly detailed history of Blue Cheer" that young heads should check out before they waste their time on later Cheer records. Plus Jackknife, Krautrock, "Is There a Cure for Rock Criticism?" (recommended books + short non-answers from Coley, Christgau, Marcus, Carducci, others), tons of reviews.

FUNHOUSE #1
fanzine + Are Friends Eclectic? CDR compliation $10
Australian zine drenched in the blood, sweat, and beer of the Stooges and Charles Bukowski. I haven't seen this sort of macho literary self-destruction so focused and raging in a long time. Besides tributes to the dum-dum boys and Bukowski, there's stuff on Aussie bands Feedtime and the Crazies, Stan Kenton, Lou Reed's 70s LPs, and more. You also get a CDR comp, which features a wide array of mostly locals doing distorted garage-y punk, lo-fi rock, noise, vomitous skuzz, spoken-word, etc. With Andrew Bunney, New England Stone, Daniel Watson, Tim Gaze/Simon McGuire, Vomit Brothers, the Drivers, Cellulite, the Crazies, Explosive Abortion, Repo, Hack, Grudge, Wife Trouble, and some old dead guy named Charles Bukowski (yep, a couple pieces recorded by somebody's hidden tape deck).
